The Rich Man

As Jesus was setting out on a journey, a man ran up and knelt before him, and asked him, “Good Teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal life?” Jesus reviews the commandments. The man assures Jesus that he has not broken any of the commandments since he has become an adult. When Jesus tells this very rich man that he must rid himself of his possessions he becomes crestfallen. He walks away in grief. The rich man loves his wealth more than God. His wealth is what is holding him back. Spirituality is prioritized by the things we love. Keeping the commandments is about loving God and neighbor.

Last Sunday we gathered under the pines for out church service and blessing of the animals. Rev. Sara-Scott said a blessing over some adorable cats and dogs who we hope are behaving as good little pets this week. We also devoured delicious grilled hot dogs burgers compliments of Sam Nelms and hot, golden fried fish by Anthony Joseph . Rounding out the meal were tasty baked beans, fresh buns, tomatoes and lettuce along with cold drinks and some special sweets. The children and some of the adults played games under the leadership of Cassandra Joseph. It’s wonderful celebrating our life together as a church family in this way! Many thanks to all of the men and women who helped cook and set up. A special thanks to Marc Smith for the organization of the event.
Renovation work at the rectory has been completed. The rectory is slated for future activities and ministries. We are thankful to the unnamed sponsor of this project.

Thanks to an anonymous donor, the tree that was leaning against the church has been removed. We can give a sigh of relief that this tree will no longer be in a position to do damage to the roof of the church.

Cecil Washington Jr. portrays the character of Benny in the Red Mountain Theatre’s presentation of RENT.
